Obese children and adolescents are more likely to remain obese through adulthood.
The prevalence of childhood obesity more than doubled from 1980 to 2008. An estimated 17% of children and adolescents ages 2-19 years are obese. These results are from the 2007-2008 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).
